Jewell's Prairie Border

About Us

The focus of Jewell's Prairie Nursery is to provide quality perennials and woody trees and shrubs to the customer who's looking for something a little different. We're s-o-o-o-o not corporate - definitely 'Mom & Pop', and customer satisfaction is at the top of our list of priorities. We're located in scenic Jo Daviess County, in Elizabeth, Illinois (just a stone's throw from historic Galena, Illinois). We carry a full line of trees, shrubs, annuals, herbs, and of course perennials. If you're ever in our neck of the woods, please stop in. Click on the Jewell's Prairie sign below for directions and to check our current hours of operation.

Jewell's Prairie

Incredible plant quality is what we strive for. We want all of our customers to be deliriously happy with their purchases. After all, a happy customer is a repeat customer. All of our stock is northern grown, which translates to hardier, tougher plants with a better success rate for those of us gardening in less clement plant hardiness zones. Plants grown in southern, more temperate climates tend to go belly up after a taste of our northern Illinois winters.

Dr. Jennifer

Jennifer hates to have her picture taken - not that you can tell from the photos - all thanks to Mark VanOsdol of VanOsdol Photographics. Jennifer is the owner of Jewell's Prairie and is a licensed veterinarian who discovered a passion for plants, which led her to JPN.

The Deer Slayer

Nathalie is a seven-year old Corgi, who routinely saves us from bear attacks, mountain lions, and grasshoppers. Her job description is to keep the White-Tailed, four-footed, terrestrial tree-munchers at bay, but even as diligent as she is, we still suffer tremendous losses from those beautiful marauders. At her last performance review, she was initially placed on probation for lack of performance. However, after much tearful sulking on her part, she was let off with a slight reprimand, and a stern talking-to - Sic 'em, Nat!

Little Roy

Stone-Cold Killers

The Boys

Don't let these two fool you. They may look namby-pamby, but they're positively brimming with blood lust. When Carlos and Roy - the toughest hombres this side of the Pecos - came to town (thanks to the fabulous people at Safehaven Shelter), the scourge of our plants' lives - mice - hit the bricks. Now there's scarcely a mouse dropping to be found - all thanks to the kitty-cats. Whenever we see these two in action, we fondly reminisce about the more macabre scenes from 'Pulp Fiction'.
